Description: Cass County Historical Society was organized in 1936.The Society’s first permanent displays were housed in two rooms on the third floor of the Cass County Courthouse. In 1960, the present museum was opened at 646 Main in Plattsmouth. Permanent exhibits tell the story of the county’s roots as part of the westward movement. Included are a general store, pioneer kitchen and Victorian Parlor. The Davis Conference Room, added in1986, provides a gathering place for meetings and activities such as “brown bag programs”. Exhibits are changed quarterly in the Conference Room and highlight different aspects of the permanent collection. In addition to the main building, the Society also maintains the Joseph and Mary Cook Log Cabin, a Burlington Caboose and a one room school house.  The cabin was built in Mynard in 1868 and now stands in a park at the end of Main Street. The 1913 Caboose is in the same park. Rock Bluffs, a one room brick school house, was constructed in 1870 and is located about 10 miles south of Plattsmouth. The Cabin, Caboose and School are open on special occasions or by appointment.
